German tourist dies in Bali
DENPASAR: The corpse of an 80-year-old German tourist Edith
Arbec who died after a fall in Sanur Beach, Bali last week, was
flown home on Wednesday.
Gus Sumastra, spokesman for the provincial administration,
said that Edith's body was flown by Singapore Airlines, flight
number SQ-147 early on Wednesday.
He said the aged Edith fell into a 30-centimeter hole while
she was walking with her entourage on the seashore. She died
shortly after the minor accident.
"She was sent to her home village in Koln as requested by her
relatives," he said.
Last week, another German tourist Wild Uwe, 34, died after
drowning in Canggu, Kuta. Wild's corpse was also sent to his
homeland. The body was recovered two days after the victim went
missing.
Wild drowned when he was hit by a big wave while swimming with
his German friend Christoph Albert Newman, 33. Christoph was
rescued by the coast guards while Wild went missing.
So far, 40 foreign tourists have died over the last nine
months while on holidays on the tourist island.
During 2001, a total of 70 foreign tourists have died on the
island, 50 were sent back home while the remaining 20 were
cremated according to Hinduism tradition. --Antara
