German school to move to BSD

TANGERANG (JP): The German International School is scheduled to move to Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) housing complex here in August.

The new school complex is under construction at BSD and a topping-off ceremony was held yesterday to mark the completion of the basic structure.

Ambassador Heinrich Seeman said during the ceremony that the school was constructed on a 4.4-hectare plot of land at a cost of about DM 9.5 million (Rp 57 billion).

Principal Wolfgang Hinners said yesterday the school, which has been located on Jl. Sam Ratulangi in Menteng, Central Jakarta, for more than 30 years, was deemed too small to accommodate its 320 students.

"There are already 20 German families living around here. We hope that by moving to a cleaner and fresher area the students can go to school by bike.".

Wolfgang said 80 percent of the school's students were German while the remainder came from Austria or Switzerland. (ind)
