German President Visits, Several Jakarta Roads to Face Situational Closures

Indonesia will welcome German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Monday morning (15/6). A series of state events will be held from 08:00 until completion. Citing the social media account of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Management Centre (TMC Polda Metro Jaya), there will be temporary escorts and traffic management on several main roads in Jakarta as a mark of respect. However, road closures will only be implemented when the state guest’s motorcade passes. The roads to be traversed are: Jalan Halim Perdanakusuma, Jalan MT Haryono, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Garnisun Dalam, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, and Jalan Perwira. Jakarta residents wishing to know real-time traffic conditions and when roads are closed for the state guest can monitor the Instagram story feature of TMC Polda Metro Jaya. This marks Steinmeier’s first visit to Indonesia under President Prabowo Subianto. During the previous administration, Steinmeier was also a state guest of Indonesia in 2022. According to the official website of the German President, Der Bundespräsident, Steinmeier is also visiting the Philippines and Uzbekistan as part of his state visit itinerary. In Indonesia, Prabowo will welcome Steinmeier with a military ceremony. The two presidents will emphasise their shared goal of further expanding cooperation in business, energy, climate, skilled labour recruitment, and culture. ‘At the same time, they will underline their shared stance on democracy, a rules-based order, and strong multilateral engagement in the Indo-Pacific,’ stated Steinmeier’s agenda in Indonesia, as quoted from the site. He is also scheduled to visit Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral, and to try the ‘tunnel of friendship’ connecting the two houses of worship.
