German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier thanked President Prabowo Subianto after discussing cooperation in various fields on Monday, June 15, 2026. Steinmeier delivered his thanks in Indonesian. “President Prabowo Subianto, thank you very much,” Steinmeier said at the Merdeka Palace.

Steinmeier stated that Indonesia is an important partner for Germany. He noted that this was his fourth visit to Indonesia, with previous visits made when he served as Germany’s foreign minister. “This is the fourth time I have visited here. The number of visits shows how important the relationship with Indonesia is for us in Germany,” he said.

According to Steinmeier, the meeting with Prabowo took place amid a very difficult global situation, citing ongoing wars in various countries. “There is a war in Europe, as well as in Central Asia. And there are ongoing conflicts, including in Sudan and Germany, that remain unresolved,” he stated. Steinmeier explained that his visit was motivated by Indonesia’s important position. “In a situation like this, a partnership such as the one between Germany and Indonesia is very meaningful. This is a partnership between two countries that are mutually committed to a rules-based order,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto invited Germany to expand investment in various strategic sectors in Indonesia, ranging from energy transition and downstream industry to electric vehicles and semiconductor development. This was conveyed by Prabowo during the state visit reception at the State Palace. “Indonesia also invites Germany to expand investment in important sectors in Indonesia, for example in the field of energy transition, downstream industry, and vehicles as we move towards electric vehicles, as well as semiconductor industry development,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Germany agreed to continue increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment volumes. “I emphasised the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe, and we hope that the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) can reach a substantive conclusion,” he said.
