German President Reveals Reasons for Meeting Prabowo Amid Difficult Global Situation

President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier has revealed the importance of his meeting with President Prabowo Subianto amid a difficult global situation. Steinmeier touched upon a number of regional conflicts. “This visit demonstrates how important relations with Indonesia are for us in Germany, and of course our meeting is being held in a very difficult world situation,” Steinmeier said at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. For example, Steinmeier mentioned the conflict between Russia and Ukraine as well as the conflict in the Middle East. The German head of state considered these conditions a crucial reason to visit Indonesia. “In Europe there is a war, likewise in the Middle East, in Central Asia, and conflicts that are still ongoing, including in Sudan and Germany, which remain unresolved. The main point is that I have returned to visit here for serious reasons,” he stated. According to Steinmeier, the relationship between Indonesia and Germany is very meaningful. This is because, he said, violence still persists in parts of the world. “In a situation where the world is shaken by increasing violence in many regions, a partnership such as the one between Germany and Indonesia is very meaningful,” Steinmeier said alongside Prabowo. “This is a partnership between two countries that are mutually committed to a firm rules-based order, and that is the bond between the two countries,” he added.
