German pianist to play local works
JAKARTA (JP): German pianist Hansjrg Koch will play on Sunday the winning pieces of a composition contest for Indonesian artists at the Erasmus Huis, Jl. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta.
Koch, a lecturer at the Freiburg Music Institute, will present the compositions Bayang (Image), by Marissa CL Susanto, Langendria, by Dody Satya Ekagustdiman, and Kenang (Memory), by Soe Tjen Marching. The numbers were winners in a piano composition contest organized by the German Embassy, Mercedes- Benz and the Indonesian Composers' Association.
Koch will also play Yu-Taha, by the association's chairman Slamet A. Sjukur, and Basah (Wet), by German composer Dieter Mack. Both of them, along with Suka Hardjana, were members of the jury.
Marissa is a junior high school student in Surabaya, Soe Tjen is pursuing her post-graduate degree on Asian Studies and Women's Studies at Monash University, Australia, and Dody is a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of Arts in Bandung.
The evening will also see the presentation of the awards by German Ambassador for Indonesia Heinrich Seemann and General Manager of Mercedes Benz for Indonesia Frank Messer. (sim)
