German photos at Antara

JAKARTA (JP): An exhibition of photography by German Silke
Grossmann is scheduled to take place at Antara Journalism
Photography Gallery, on Jl. Antara, Central Jakarta, from April
15 to 30.

The Orte Gesichter Bewegung (Places, Faces and Movement)
exhibition is the second in a series of such exhibitions held
under the theme of Aspects of Contemporary German Photography,
jointly organized by Antara Gallery and the German cultural
center, Goethe Institut. The series features new trends developed
by talented photographers, including Grossmann, in Germany.

Grossmann, a graduate of Hamburg's Academy of Fine Arts, who
is also a filmmaker, has developed a narrative form in her
photographs that doesn't follow any linear story. Her photographs
do not offer any fixed definition of their contents, but rather
they attempt to maintain a certain detachment from known and
often used explanations.

Grossmann has also displayed her photographs in New York,
Bern, Berlin, Hamburg and Essen.

A discussion on German Contemporary Photography will also be
held at the same venue on April 22 by the gallery's curator Yudhi
Soerjoatmodjo. (als)
