German National Found Dead in Sanur Bathroom, Suspected Electrocution from Water Heater
A German foreign national was discovered deceased in a prostration position in the bathroom of his residence at Jalan Kutat Lestari Gang Pelanggi No. 14, Sanur Kauh Village, South Denpasar. He is believed to have died due to an electric shock from a short-circuited water heater.
The victim, identified as PP (53), was found by his Thai wife, YP (54), on Monday, 25 May 2026, at approximately 5:40 pm WITA.
According to witness statements, both the victim and his wife were using separate bathrooms at the time of the incident. After finishing his shower, YP became suspicious when her husband did not exit the bathroom. Upon entering, she found PP in a prostration position and motionless.
“She repeatedly called out to the victim but received no response,” said Denpasar City Police Public Relations Chief, Iptu Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
Panicked, YP sought assistance from neighbours who helped move the body from the bathroom to a bed. During the evacuation, one neighbour reported receiving an electric shock while touching the metal shower hose.
Police officers arrived at the scene to conduct a crime scene investigation. Initial examinations revealed no signs of violence on the victim’s body, but burn marks were found on his upper back. Additionally, skin residue from the victim was discovered on the shower hose.
“The preliminary assumption is that the victim died due to an electric shock caused by a short circuit in the water heater,” the police chief added.
When discovered, the victim was unclothed and his body was already stiff. After being transported to Bali Mandara Hospital by Denpasar City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) ambulance, he was pronounced dead following medical examination.
