German gets 17 years for murder
MANILA (AFP): A German resident of the Philippines was jailed
for 17 years in Manila for the murder of a Filipina prostitute
two years ago, a lower court said yesterday.
Helmut Bister, 41, an electrical engineer from West Fahren,
Germany, was found guilty of the beating death in 1993 of Eleanor
Fabiosa, 18, whose body was found stuffed under a motel mattress.
Bister had told the court he killed the woman in self-defense
after she attacked him with a broken bottle.
The verdict said Fabiosa died from injuries she received from
Bister who beat her when the two had a fight in a motel room.
Bister arrived in the Philippines in 1986 and married a Filipina
that year, the court said.
