German Foreign Office Invites Global Skilled Workers to Address Labour Shortages
Berlin (ANTARA) - The German Foreign Ministry is inviting skilled workers from across the globe, including Indonesia, to work and reside in Germany amidst the demographic challenges currently facing the nation.
“Simply put, we want skilled labour immigration to Germany, and we need skilled labour immigration to Germany,” stated Dr Martin Bergfelder, Special Representative for Skilled Labour Immigration at the German Federal Foreign Office, in Berlin on Friday.
Bergfelder noted that Germany is currently experiencing significant labour shortages. For the past 20 to 30 years, the German labour market has relied on migration from other European nations, particularly from Eastern Europe. However, this trend has ended as similar demographic issues have begun to affect Eastern European countries.
Many Eastern European nations are now catching up, and many individuals from those regions are returning to their homelands. Consequently, Germany has begun to face a shortage of skilled workers following this outflow.
“Therefore, we want people to come. We need them. Across all political parties, skilled labour immigration is highly welcomed and necessary. We also want people to come and stay,” he said.
He added that this invitation is not only for those who already possess high qualifications suitable for working in Germany, but also for individuals interested in pursuing vocational training or studying in the country.
The German Foreign Ministry, alongside relevant ministries and agencies such as the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Goethe Institut, and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), continues to promote and provide accurate information regarding opportunities to work and live in Germany.
The German government is undertaking several efforts to encourage skilled workers to move to Germany as part of its strategy through bilateral relations with countries worldwide, including Indonesia.
Germany is also working to improve bureaucracy to enhance immigration governance, including through the ‘Work and Stay Agency’, which provides a single-window, digital service to simplify bureaucratic procedures, making them easier, faster, and more practical.
Fundamental aspects such as finding accommodation, securing schools for children, and establishing social connections are also priorities in Germany, ensuring that those arriving to work and live receive the support necessary for successful integration.
In addition to its beautiful mountains, beaches, large cities, and small towns, Germany also offers a robust healthcare system and social security framework.
