German coach faces jail term
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A German soccer coach is under
investigation for allegedly training a Malaysian state team for
the past seven months without a work permit, a news report said
Thursday.
Karl Weigang faces a prison sentence of up to six months and a
fine of 1,000 ringgit (US$263) if found guilty of working
illegally for the Perak state soccer body, Perak Immigration
Director Ishak Mohamed said.
Ishak, quoted by The Star newspaper, said Weigang holds a
business visit pass that allows him to negotiate for a work
contract. The pass, which expires Oct. 18, prohibits him from
receiving any fixed salary.
