German Chancellor to Visit US to Present EU Stance on Tariffs
Moscow (ANTARA) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Saturday that he would visit the United States next week to present a coordinated European Union stance on tariffs.
“We must coordinate with the European Union… and I will go to Washington with a unified and coordinated European position,” Merz told ARD television when asked about US tariffs.
The German Chancellor also expressed hope that following the recent US Supreme Court decision to overturn imposed tariffs, the customs burden on the German economy would be significantly reduced.
On Friday, the US Supreme Court ruled to reject the tariff scheme introduced by US President Donald Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
Trump condemned the court for making what he called a “ridiculous” decision and ordered the imposition of interim tariffs of 10 per cent on all imports into the US for 150 days.
