German Chancellor Merz Warns of Risks from US-Israel Attack on Iran for Middle East
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that he agrees with the United States’ desire to “see an end to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic weapons programme,” but warned that strikes against Iran pose risks to the Middle East region.
“We agree with US interests in stopping the terror of this regime and halting dangerous nuclear and ballistic weapons,” Merz told journalists.
“This is not without risk. We do not know the extent to which the region will be drawn into escalation as a result of a strong retaliatory strike from Iran,” he added.
Iran has repeatedly asserted that it does not pursue nuclear weapons and that its nuclear programme is exclusively for peaceful civilian purposes.
