Merz added that the Iranians negotiate with great skill, as is evident. In front of students in the city of Marburg, Germany, Merz said that the Iranians seem stronger than expected, and because the Americans appear to lack a truly convincing strategy in negotiations. Merz explained that the problem in such conflicts is that it is not enough to merely enter them, but one must also exit them. “We have seen it very painfully in Afghanistan over 20 years, and also in Iraq,” he said, quoted from Aljazeera, Tuesday (28/4/2026).
