Gerindra Summons Jember DPRD Member for Playing Games and Smoking During Meeting

The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council has summoned Jember DPRD member Achmad Syahri As Sidiqi, who went viral for playing an online game while smoking during a Commission D DPRD Jember meeting. The summons for Achmad is scheduled for this Friday.

Gerindra Party Honour Council Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the summons follows media reports regarding Achmad smoking and playing games during the meeting. The examination summons letter to Achmad is numbered 05-012/A/MK-GERINDRA/2026.

“Referring to the media and social media reports that went viral on 12 May 2026 regarding the Gerindra Jember legislator playing games and smoking during the stunting meeting,” reads the letter signed by Habiburokhman on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Habiburokhman said the summons for Achmad Syahri will take place on Friday at 14:00 at the Gerindra DPP office in Ragunan, Pasar Minggu. Achmad’s attendance cannot be represented.

“In accordance with the above reference, we summon you to attend with witnesses and evidence at the Honour Council Examination on Friday, 15 May 2026,” states the summons letter.

“Given the importance of the event, please attend in person and do not send a representative,” it adds.

Previously, a video went viral on social media showing a Jember DPRD member engrossed in playing a game while smoking in the middle of a Hearing Opinion Meeting (RDP). The Jember DPRD Chairman spoke out after the incident drew widespread attention.

Based on information gathered from an Instagram post, the incident occurred on Monday (11/5) during a Commission D DPRD Jember meeting. The meeting agenda covered health services in Jember Regency.

The meeting was attended by several parties, including the Jember Regency Health Office, BPJS Health, and all heads of puskesmas throughout Jember Regency.

In the circulating video, a Council member appears busy staring at his phone screen and moving his fingers as if playing a game. He is also seen holding a cigarette in the formal indoor forum.

Jember DPRD Chairman Ahmad Halim responded to the actions of one of the Jember DPRD members. Halim assured that the institution would issue a warning and sanctions.

“First, on behalf of the DPRD leadership, we apologise. We will process this because it concerns the ethics of the DPRD institution,” said Halim, as quoted by detikJatim on Tuesday (12/5).
