Gerindra sends Rp1 billion in aid for NTT earthquake victims
The Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Gerindra Party has sent assistance worth Rp1 billion to support the handling of the needs of residents affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Gerindra Party DPP Secretary-General Sugiono said in Jakarta on Sunday that the assistance was a form of the party’s concern and solidarity with the people of NTT amid preparations for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence celebrations.
“The Gerindra Party is not merely absorbed in the Independence Day celebrations, but is also taking action as a form of solidarity,” said Sugiono.
The assistance is being distributed through the Gerindra Party’s NTT Provincial Regional Leadership Council (DPD) so that it can be used immediately to meet the needs of communities in the affected areas.
According to Sugiono, the Gerindra Party is also mobilising cadres in the regions to go directly to help communities affected by the disaster.
He said Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto has asked cadres to immediately prepare ready-to-eat and nutritious meals for distribution to affected communities, with special attention given to vulnerable groups, particularly mothers and children.
The move is part of the Gerindra Party’s efforts to ensure that assistance is not only distributed in the form of funds, but also through direct services to communities at the affected locations.
“We hope this step can ease the burden on residents, while continuing to pray that our brothers and sisters in Flores are always given strength, fortitude, and smooth recovery after the disaster,” said Sugiono.
Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that 9,290 residents remain in various evacuation points after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck NTT.
Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre Berton SP Panjaitan said that based on data updated as of 00.00 WIB, the largest concentration of evacuees is in Sikka Regency with 3,356 people and Manggarai Regency with 2,078 people.
In Sikka Regency, evacuees are spread across the Samador Sports Hall with 1,356 people, while another 2,000 people are sheltering independently at 10 locations.
