Gerindra Sanctions Head of Kepri DPRD for Riding Motorcycle Without Helmet and Licence

Gerindra has issued a sanction against the Head of the Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) DPRD, Iman Sutiawan, in the form of a written reprimand for riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle without a helmet and a driving licence.

The sanction was given by the Gerindra Party’s Honorary Council in a hearing held on Friday (15/5) today. In its decision, the Honorary Council assessed that Iman had violated the Gerindra Party’s Articles of Association (AD/ART).

“Giving a written reprimand to Brother Iman Sutiawan, a member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Kepulauan Riau or Kepri DPRD,” said the Chairman of the Hearing, M. Maulana Bungaran, while reading out the verdict.

Maulana said that from the results of the examination of the complainant, the defendant and witnesses, Iman was deemed to have violated Article 16 paragraph 2 of the AD regarding the rules of upholding the name and honour of the Gerindra Party.

In addition, Iman was also deemed to have violated Article 16 paragraph 3 of the AD, regarding upholding the party’s articles of association and regulations; as well as Article 67 paragraph 5 of the AD, the cadre’s oath.

Previously, a video of the Head of the Kepri DPRD, Iman Sutiawan, riding a large Harley Davidson motorcycle without wearing a helmet went viral on social media.

In the 31-second video uploaded to his personal account, Iman is seen riding a black Harley Davidson FXDR M/T 1868 CC motorcycle.

The motorcycle, worth almost Rp700 million, was driven along the main roads from the Sekupang area to Batam Center, which is a Traffic Order Zone (KTL).

The Head of Traffic at the Barelang Police, Kompol Afiditya Arief Wibowo, confirmed that his party had taken firm action by issuing a traffic ticket to Iman Sutiawan while he was passing through Jalan Raja Haji Fisabilillah.

Based on the examination at the scene, Iman was found to have committed a double violation. In addition to not wearing a helmet, the politician also could not show a driving licence (SIM) that was appropriate for the engine capacity of the large motorcycle, namely a SIM C2.
