Gerindra Responds to Proposed BGN Supervisory Board: 'The President's Wish, No Problem'

Jakarta – Gerindra Party spokesperson Bahtra Banong has responded to the government’s plan to form a Supervisory Board for the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Bahtra reacted positively to the proposal, stating that the establishment of the board is not an issue if it is deemed necessary. “If the President wants to form a Supervisory Board, in our humble opinion, that is perfectly fine,” Bahtra said at the DPR Building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. Should the plan be realised, he hopes the Supervisory Board will further strengthen oversight of BGN’s performance and reform progress. “In order to continue monitoring the performance and progress of improvements within BGN itself, if that is needed, we think there is no problem. It is something good,” Bahtra explained. Previously, Nanik S. Deyang officially resigned from her position as Head of BGN. She stated she intends to seek medical treatment for a heart condition abroad. Nanik said she had reported and said farewell to President Prabowo Subianto. “With a heavy heart, I finally took leave of the President to seek medical treatment abroad for my heart. I plan to depart today, Wednesday, 22 July 2026,” Nanik said via her Facebook account. “This is not because I do not trust the excellent doctors in Indonesia, but for a second opinion and it happens a friend recommended the place I am heading to,” she continued. Nanik revealed that Prabowo plans to form a BGN Supervisory Board. She claimed Prabowo asked her to become its chair. “The president will likely form a supervisory board where I am told to become the chair (if it is just supervising, I think I can still do it, as long as it does not involve handling money, I swear I am acutely traumatised),” she wrote.
