Gerindra Responds to PDIP and NasDem Stance Regarding Potential Cabinet Reshuffle by Prabowo
PDI Perjuangan and NasDem have established their stances should President Prabowo Subianto undertake a cabinet reshuffle. The Gerindra Party respects the choices made by both parties.
“Gerindra respects the attitudes and political choices of every political party, whether they wish to join the government or serve as a balancing force,” said Gerinda spokesperson Sugiat when contacted on Friday (18/09/2026).
Sugiat noted that the political choices of any party are acceptable, provided the ultimate goal is the interest of the nation, the state, and the people. “In principle, Gerindra respects the political choices or stances of our colleagues from PDIP and NasDem,” he added.
He also specifically addressed NasDem’s position, which suggested they have no right to join the cabinet as they did not contribute significantly during the 2024 Presidential Election. In response, Sugiat referenced President Prabowo’s emphasis on unity.
“President Prabowo’s political culture is focused on building unity and integrity. In the context of competition, he has been very mature; once the contest is over, let us move forward with our respective political choices to provide the best contribution to the nation,” he stated.
Furthermore, Sugiat responded to PDIP’s decision to remain a balancing force. He noted that Prabowo still requires parties to provide criticism and evaluation.
“For us, President Prabrot has stated that within a healthy democracy, criticism, input, and objective evaluations from outside the government are certainly necessary. Such input adds value to the government in formulating the best solutions. President Prabowo has repeatedly stated that PDIP’s position as a balancing force provides a very good contribution to our democracy. We are grateful for that,” he explained.
Regarding the context of a reshuffle, Sugiat stated that the authority lies solely with Prabowo. He expressed confidence that whoever is eventually appointed will be the best candidate.
“I believe that in the context of a reshuffle, the instrument of authority rests absolutely with the President. We leave it to the President to evaluate when the time is right and who the individuals should be; that is the President’s absolute prerogative. We hope that whenever and whoever President Prabowo appoints as his assistants in the cabinet, they will undoubtedly be the best people, whether they are from a political party or from outside a party,” he concluded.
