Gerindra Responds to Jokowi's Political Safari: Our Focus is on Gerindra

The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) has responded to the political manoeuvres and safari of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) alongside the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), to several regions. Gerindra Party Spokesman, Bahtra Banong, stated that his party chooses not to interfere in the domestic affairs or electoral strategies of other political parties striving to surpass the parliamentary threshold. “We do not wish to comment on other parties. Our focus at Gerindra is to safeguard President Prabowo’s priority programmes, especially those related to people’s agendas,” Bahtra said in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7/2026). Bahtra said all party instruments and cadres, both in the executive and legislative branches, have been instructed to ensure government policies run effectively on the ground. He expressed hope that the solidarity of the government’s supporting coalition remains intact through a proportional division of work focus, where the function of safeguarding state programmes remains the top priority above sectoral electoral interests. “Hopefully, all of his (President Prabowo’s) programmes can be successful, and their benefits truly felt by all Indonesian people,” Bahtra concluded. Previously, Jokowi proved his promise to return to the grassroots with the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). In the initial stage, Jokowi conducted a series of political and community activities in Lampung for three days, Friday to Sunday (26-28/06/2026). The visits are planned to continue to several other provinces until reaching all 38 provinces ahead of the 2029 General Election. “Preparations are heading to NTT and next is West Java. This is actually a series, a series of 38 provinces that Mr Jokowi promised to visit with PSI [regions] and also to fulfil community invitations,” said PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus, quoted on Friday (26/06/2026). “Including local volunteer friends who really desire Mr Jokowi’s presence in their areas.” He claimed there is no specific target for when Jokowi will complete his visits to the 38 provinces. According to him, PSI is also considering Jokowi’s condition, who has actually just recovered from his illness.
