Gerindra Respects Megawati as Stateswoman: Unlike Dino's Provocations

Habiburokhman, speaking at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/6/2026), highlighted Megawati Sukarnoputri’s conduct as a contrast to recent remarks by Dino Patti Djalal. He noted that despite being outside the government, Megawati maintains an elegant statesmanlike attitude. This response follows comments made by former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal regarding President Prabowo Subianto’s overseas visits.

He stated that the PDIP Chairperson respects Prabowo in his capacity as the sitting president. While acknowledging that PDIP members in the House of Representatives (DPR) are entitled to offer criticism, Habiburokhman emphasised that Megawati herself shows great respect for Prabowo’s position. As a fellow national figure, he noted, she demonstrates a strong commitment to limiting political polarisation.

Habiburokhman further contrasted her approach with that of Dino Patti Djalal, stating that instead of inciting division, Megawati seeks to prevent the nation from becoming fragmented. He expressed deep respect for her elegant example.

He also noted that the relationship between Prabowo and Megawati remains harmonious, with high-level communication between political elites functioning effectively. He remarked that even before Prabowo assumed the presidency, he had witnessed the excellent communication maintained between these leaders.

Previously, Prabowo and Megawati attended the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Central Jakarta on Monday (1/6/2026). Vice President Gibran Rakabuming was also in attendance. Following the ceremony, moments of warmth between Prabowo and Megawati were visible; after Prabowo had been conversing with former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla and Ma’ruf Amin, Megawati joined them, and the two were seen walking together and sharing a laugh.
