Gerindra Reprimands Party Member for Not Wearing Helmet While Riding Harley
The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council has issued a written reprimand to Iman Sutiawan, Chairman of the Riau Islands Regional People’s Representative Council, who violated traffic regulations by riding a Harley motorcycle without wearing a helmet. The incident was recorded in a video that went viral on social media and was widely criticised by the public.
This then became the basis for the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council to make a decision, which was read out by the chairman of the session, M. Maulana Bungaran, at the Gerindra DPP office, South Jakarta, on Friday, 15 May 2026.
“Stating that Brother Iman Sutiawan, as a Gerindra Party cadre, has been proven to have violated the party’s articles of association,” said Maulana while reading the verdict number 05-003/PTS/MK.Gerindra/2026 in the DPP Gerindra hearing room.
Maulana said that the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council had conducted an examination of Iman Setiawan, witnesses, complainants and evidence on Tuesday, 12 May 2026. From the examination, the Honour Council assessed that Iman had violated Article 16, paragraph 2 of the AD, which requires all cadres to uphold the name and honour of the Gerindra Party.
Iman was also deemed to have violated Article 16, paragraph 3 of the AD, which instructs cadres to uphold the articles of association and regulations of the Gerindra Party. Thirdly, Iman was found to have violated Article 67, paragraph 5 of the AD, regarding the cadre’s oath, which states that he must submit and obey the party’s ideology and discipline, as well as maintain the party’s honour, dignity and solidarity.
“Giving a written reprimand to Brother Iman Sutiawan, a member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Riau Islands Provincial DPRD,” said Maulana.
The video of Iman Sutiawan riding a Harley Davidson FXDR motorcycle with the number plate BP 6215 VF without a helmet was uploaded to social media @iman_sutiawan75 on Saturday, 9 May 2026. After receiving public criticism, the video was then deleted from his personal account.
Later, the Traffic Unit of the Barelang Police imposed a fine on Iman for not complying with traffic rules in the Rosedale intersection area, Batam Center. Iman was fined Rp 500,000 for two types of violations, namely not wearing a helmet and not carrying a driving license.
