Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Bimantoro Wiyono, has reminded law enforcement officials to ensure that every case handling process is conducted fairly and transparently. He stated that law enforcement must not create the perception of special treatment for suspects, including in the handling of the case ensnaring former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah.

The statement was made by Bimantoro following public attention on Febrie’s detention process at the Corruption Eradication Commission detention centre. According to him, the issue is not merely the detainee’s attributes, but how law enforcement officials can uphold the principle of equality before the law at every stage of the legal process.

“Law enforcement must not give the impression of special treatment to anyone. Anyone who has been named a suspect must be processed according to applicable regulations. Do not let a perception arise in society that there are different standards in handling a case,” Bimantoro stressed in a written statement to the media on Saturday, 25 July 2026.

Bimantoro, who is also a member of the Working Committee of the Supervisory Team of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, assessed that consistency in implementing procedures is an important factor in maintaining public trust in law enforcement institutions. Therefore, every action by officials must demonstrate that the law is enforced objectively, professionally, and without discrimination.

“The most important thing is that the legal process runs professionally, independently, and accountably. There should be no special treatment that could cause polemics or reduce public trust in law enforcement,” he said.

He emphasised that cases that attract public attention, such as the Febrie case, must become a momentum for all law enforcement officials to strengthen their commitment to the principle of legal equality. According to him, a person’s position or background must not influence how the law is enforced.

“As a state of law, Indonesia must show that no one is immune to the law. Everyone has equal standing before the law. Therefore, every law enforcement procedure must be implemented consistently so as not to create the perception of privilege for certain parties,” he added.
