Gerindra Rebukes Hotman: President Does Not Intervene in Ex-Jampidsus Febrie Case

The Gerindra Party has refuted a statement by lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea linking President Prabowo Subianto to the legal case against former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. Gerindra stressed that the president has never interfered in the law enforcement process. The statement was a response to remarks by Hotman Paris, who is representing Febrie Adriansyah. When speaking to reporters after his client’s examination at Polda Metro Jaya some time ago, Hotman requested that the handling of the case not be used as a tool to attack President Prabowo’s administration. On that occasion, he also mentioned that President Prabowo did not want law enforcement to be influenced by political interests and invoked the president’s name while defending his client. Hotman’s statement subsequently triggered a response from the Gerindra Party, which deemed it inappropriate to drag the president’s name into the defence process of a criminal case. Bambang Haryadi, Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Central Executive Board, said that Prabowo has a strong commitment to law enforcement and eradicating corruption. ‘Gerindra regrets Hotman Paris’s statement linking the case of the former Jampidsus to President Prabowo. This is completely untrue and contradicts President Prabowo’s commitment to eradicating corruption,’ Bambang said in his statement on Sunday (19/7/2026). Bambang stated that since the beginning of his administration, Prabowo has repeatedly emphasised that he will not protect anyone proven to have violated the law, including party cadres or officials from his own government. According to him, this commitment has been demonstrated by the continued legal processing of several regional heads affiliated with the Gerindra Party when they encountered legal troubles. ‘Prabowo, in every party activity, always reminds us that he will not protect cadres who commit disgraceful acts and corruption. This has been proven, as several regional heads who violated the law and are affiliated with Gerindra are still being processed legally,’ said Bambang. He also noted that a member of the Red and White Cabinet is currently undergoing legal proceedings despite being part of President Prabowo’s government. ‘In fact, there is a cabinet member, a deputy minister, who is also being processed legally,’ he said. Therefore, Bambang urged Hotman not to drag the president’s name into his defence of Febrie. He asserted that the legal process must run independently and should not be associated with the head of state. ‘President Prabowo has never interfered in law enforcement,’ Bambang stated.
