A lawyer and Gerindra party politician, Hendarsam Marantoko has been appointed Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Penitential Services by President Prabowo Subianto.

The appointment of Hendarsam is based on Presidential Decree Number 187/TPA of 2025, signed by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Yes, it is true (that Hendarsam Marantoko has been selected as Director General of Immigration),” said the Head of the Data, Information and Public Communication Centre at the Ministry of Immigration and Penitential Services, M. Akbar Hadi Prabowo, to CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (12 March).

Akbar Hadi stated that Hendarsam would likely be sworn in as Director General of Immigration in early April 2026.

“It is planned for early April,” he said.

As a result, Akbar Hadi said, the Ministry of Immigration and Penitential Services closed the open selection process for the position of Director General of Immigration on 10 March. Results from the first phase of selection that had already taken place were not continued.

“With the appointment of Director General of Immigration through a Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia, the need to fill the position is declared to have been met through the senior executive appointment mechanism, in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.

“This appointment is the government’s authority in ensuring continuity of leadership and the implementation of institutional duties and functions. Accordingly, the open selection for the position of Director General of Immigration will not be continued, whilst the selection process for the Head of BPSDM continues as planned,” Akbar Hadi continued.

Previously, the Ministry of Immigration and Penitential Services had announced a second-wave open selection for the position of Director General of Immigration on 3 March.

Deputy Minister of Immigration Silmy Karim stated that the second-wave selection process for Director General of Immigration was being conducted to attract a larger number of candidates.

The open selection was conducted in five stages, beginning with registration open for 19 days from 9 to 27 March, followed by administrative selection lasting four days from 30 March to 2 April 2026.

“For the position of Director General of Immigration, the implementation of the first and second waves constitutes a series of selection processes whose overall results will still be considered,” she said.
