Gerindra Opens Door for Potential Cooperation with PDIP in 2029

Gerindra Party spokesperson Sugiat Santoso stated that his party is opening doors to all political forces in preparation for the 2029 General Election and Presidential Election.

According to Sugiat, Gerindra is even open to working alongside PDIP, despite it currently being the only party outside of the government.

“Gerindra is opening its doors as wide as possible to any political force in the context of 2029 to, shall we say, work together,” Sugiat said in a statement on Thursday (17/9).

“Whether in the context of the Presidential Election and so on, Gerindra is opening opportunities. Even with PDIP itself,” he added.

This statement was made by Sugiat in response to the recent moment of rapport between the President and Gerindra Chairman, Prabowo Subianto, and the Governor of Jakarta, who is also a PDIP politician, Pramono Anung, during the inauguration of the LRT on Wednesday (16/9).

Sugiat emphasised that Gerindra is open to cooperation with all parties, especially those who share the same desire to find solutions to public issues.

However, the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR clarified that the President’s presence at the LRT inauguration alongside Pramono was not a political agenda. He stated that Prabowo was purely performing his official duties.

“Therefore, it cannot be interpreted that there was a political agenda in that meeting. It was simply a form of working together,” he said.

Furthermore, Sugiat added that the 2029 General and Presidential Elections are still too far off to be discussed at this time. He noted that his party’s internal political calculations for the election have not yet begun.

“In terms of political calculations, there are none yet. Because, once again, we are currently focused on, shall we say, supporting the programmes and policies of Mr Prabowo Subianto,” said Sugiat.

During the inauguration ceremony, Prabowo took the opportunity to praise Pramono’s capacity as the Governor of Jakarta. He requested that other parties follow this example, expressing hope that regional heads from other parties would take good examples and work correctly.

“I must admit that if there is a great governor, I admit he is great… even though… even though he is not from my party,” said Prabowo.
