The Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Gerindra Party has moved swiftly to assist communities affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Aid worth Rp 1 billion has been sent to support the handling of affected residents’ needs while easing the burden on communities facing a difficult post-disaster period.

“The Gerindra Party DPP has sent financial assistance amounting to Rp 1 billion to help ease the burden of our brothers and sisters affected by the earthquake in NTT,” said Gerindra Party DPP Secretary-General Sugiono in a statement on Sunday (16/8/2026).

The assistance is being distributed through the Gerindra Party’s NTT Provincial Regional Leadership Council (DPD) so that it can be used immediately to meet the needs of communities in affected areas. The Gerindra Party has also mobilised its cadres in the regions to go directly to assist communities, including visiting evacuation sites and setting up emergency public kitchens.

“Gerindra Party cadres are not merely absorbed in the Independence Day celebrations, but are moving as a form of solidarity to prepare public kitchens in response to the urgent food needs of residents,” he said.

Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto, according to Sugiono, has instructed cadres to immediately prepare ready-to-eat, nutritious meals for distribution to affected communities, with particular attention to the needs of vulnerable groups, especially mothers and children. This step is part of the Gerindra Party’s efforts to ensure that assistance does not stop at the disbursement of funds, but is also present in the form of direct services to communities at affected locations.

According to Sugiono, the presence of cadres among the community is part of the Gerindra Party’s commitment to mutual cooperation and standing together with the people, especially when facing disasters.

“The presence of cadres among the community is the party’s commitment to always be present in difficult times. We hope this step can ease the burden on residents, while continuing to pray that our brothers and sisters in Flores are always given strength, fortitude, and smooth recovery after the disaster,” said Sugiono.

In addition to mobilising the party structure, Gerindra has also opened space for members of the public who wish to participate in mutual assistance for earthquake victims. The distribution of aid is coordinated through Fernando Soares, Chairman of the Gerindra Party Faction in the NTT Provincial Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), who serves as the person in charge of the Gerindra Party Disaster Care Post in East Nusa Tenggara.
