Gerindra Mourns the Death of BPK Member Haerul Saleh: He Was a Talented Young Man
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Gerindra Party is mourning the death of Haerul Saleh, the IV Member of the Financial Audit Board (BPK), in a house fire in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta, on Friday (8/5/2026). Gerindra’s Deputy Chairman, Habiburokhman, admitted he was shocked to hear the news. Moreover, the deceased was a friend he had known for a long time within Gerindra. “Very shocked and deeply saddened. He was one of my friends. Before the 2014 elections, we shared a room during Gerindra’s cadre training. He was very kind,” said Habiburokhman on Friday. “He was a talented young man who passed away at the age of just 43,” he added. Habiburokhman then prayed that the deceased would receive the best place by God’s side. “We pray that he achieves a good end, is forgiven for all his sins, his deeds of worship are accepted, and he receives the best place by Allah SWT,” he concluded. Previously reported, Haerul Saleh died in the fire at his home in the Tanjung Barat Indah Housing complex, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday morning. Jagakarsa Police Chief AKP Nurma Dewi confirmed that the victim who died in the fire was Haerul Saleh. “Yes, that’s correct, the deceased victim is Mr Haerul Saleh from the BPK,” said Nurma, when contacted. Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) Asril Rizal stated that the fire occurred around 07:53 WIB and was localised at 08:46 WIB. According to Asril, the three-storey house is suspected to have caught fire due to remnants of paint thinner from house renovations. “The fire is suspected to have originated from remnants of paint thinner used in house renovations,” said Asril.
