Gerindra Legislator Urges Coexistence Paradigm in Modern Global Conflicts

Azis Subekti, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the Gerindra Party faction, has emphasised the importance of a paradigm shift in responding to the dynamics of modern global conflicts. In his view, the international community must abandon the ambition of absolute victory and instead build a paradigm of coexistence.

According to Azis, the character of conflict today has changed drastically as a result of economic interconnectivity and technological advancement. The impact of war is no longer confined to combat zones, but can be felt in regions located far from the centre of the conflict.

“We live in an increasingly integrated world, yet we carry psychological equipment shaped by thousands of years of inter-group competition,” Azis said in a written statement on Sunday (26/7/2026).

Azis highlighted several phenomena that demonstrate how vulnerable global stability currently is. Disruptions to international trade routes, for example, can instantly send global energy prices soaring. Moreover, cyberattacks in one country carry a high risk of destabilising financial systems in other parts of the world.

He also touched on the use of modern military technology such as unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). This technology enables high-value facilities to be attacked at relatively low cost, thereby reshaping the balance of power on the ground.

In his view, military success in the modern era no longer guarantees sustainable political or economic advantage. “All parties can attack. However, fewer and fewer parties are capable of winning absolutely,” the Gerindra legislator asserted.

Furthermore, Azis explained that the paradigm of coexistence does not mean erasing differences or ending competition between nations. On the contrary, this approach aims to manage rivalry so that it does not end in mutual destruction.

The coexistence approach, he argued, is highly relevant for addressing various cross-border threats that require global collaboration.

In closing, Azis added that a nation’s success in the future will no longer be measured solely by military strength or economic scale. A country’s ability to preserve global peace and stability will become the primary benchmark of success on the international stage.
