Gerindra Legislator Urges Coexistence Paradigm in Modern Global Conflicts

House of Representatives (DPR) member from the Gerindra Party faction, Azis Subekti, has stressed the importance of a paradigm shift in facing the dynamics of modern global conflict. He believes the international community must begin to abandon ambitions of absolute victory and shift towards building a paradigm of coexistence. According to Azis, the character of conflict has changed drastically due to economic interconnectedness and technological advancement. The impact of warfare is no longer limited to combat zones, but can be felt in regions located very far from the centre of conflict. “We live in an increasingly integrated world, but we carry psychological apparatus shaped by thousands of years of intergroup competition,” Azis said in a written statement on Sunday (26/7/2026). Azis highlighted several phenomena demonstrating the current fragility of world stability. Disruptions to international trade routes, for instance, can instantly cause global energy prices to spike. Furthermore, a cyberattack in one country carries a high risk of disrupting financial stability on the other side of the world. He also touched upon the use of modern military technology such as drones. This technology allows high-value facilities to be attacked at a relatively low cost, thereby changing the balance of power on the ground. In his view, military success in the modern era no longer guarantees sustainable political or economic gains. “Everyone can attack. However, fewer and fewer parties are capable of winning absolutely,” the Gerindra legislator asserted. Azis further explained that the coexistence paradigm does not mean eliminating differences or stopping competition between nations. Instead, this approach aims to manage rivalry so that it does not lead to mutual destruction. He added that the indicator of a country’s success in the future will no longer be measured solely by military strength or economic scale. The ability to maintain global sustainability and peace stability will become the primary benchmark of success on the international stage.
