Far from mere ceremony, this year’s May Day commemoration brought a different atmosphere. Workers no longer faced off against authorities in voicing their aspirations, but instead engaged in direct dialogue with the government. The President was present, listening and even responding to the demands put forward by the workers.

Setyoko, Chairman of the Gerindra Party Faction in DKI Jakarta, assessed that Prabowo’s leadership has opened up new space for the unity of workers on the same stage as the government.

“Prabowo is the true president of the working class,” he stated in a written remark on Saturday (2/5/2026).

According to him, the 2026 May Day momentum demonstrates that all elements of workers can unite in a more conducive atmosphere. He even assessed that Indonesia is now one of the few countries celebrating Labour Day together with the government.

“The unity of the working class in Prabowo’s administration, all labour organisations were present together to celebrate May Day. Prabowo is one of three presidents celebrating International Labour Day: first Venezuela, second Bolivia, third Indonesia which wants to celebrate Labour Day with workers,” he said.

Setyoko added that the President’s presence in the Labour Day commemoration is not merely symbolic, but also a form of the government’s real commitment to workers’ welfare.

This cadre from the party led by Prabowo Subianto conveyed several policies deemed pro-worker, ranging from the enactment of the Domestic Workers (PRT) Law, holiday bonuses for online motorcycle drivers, to protection for workers in the fisheries sector.

“The enactment of the PRT Law, holiday bonuses for ojol, protection for fishery vessel crew enshrined in Presidential Regulation Number 25 of 2026 on the ratification of International Labour Organization Convention Number 188, to ensure protection and welfare for fishery vessel crew and others, is proof that the government is working to prosper workers so that Indonesia advances,” he emphasised.

Nevertheless, Setyoko reminded that workers are still awaiting the realisation of several policies, particularly regarding platform fee cuts for online motorcycle drivers.

“What is awaited is the realisation of Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026 for cuts below 10 percent from platforms for ojol colleagues,” he said.

At the end of his statement, he invited all elements of society to maintain unity as the foundation of national development.

“Workers unite, fishermen unite, farmers unite, the people unite, Indonesia advances will surely be realised soon,” he concluded.
