The Sekolah Rakyat programme continues to be promoted to provide broader educational access for children from underprivileged families. Besides facility construction, the programme’s success also requires adequate teaching staff and good learning quality.

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Longki Djanggola, emphasised the importance of ensuring the Sekolah Rakyat Programme truly reaches its target communities. He made the remarks during a monitoring visit to Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SMP) 22 Sigi, Central Sulawesi, today.

During the visit, Longki observed learning activities and the condition of students who are still using facilities belonging to a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

“Later, the students will occupy a permanent Sekolah Rakyat complex currently under construction in Pombewe Village, Sigi Regency,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

The former Governor of Central Sulawesi said the field visit was part of his responsibility as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and a Gerindra Party cadre. The monitoring was carried out to ensure the programme, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision, reaches communities that genuinely need it.

“This is our duty and obligation as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction and as Gerindra cadres. We must go directly to the field to ensure that President Prabowo’s Asta Cita programme is truly on target for communities that deserve to receive it,” he explained.

According to him, Sekolah Rakyat plays a strategic role in opening educational opportunities for children who have faced limitations due to economic factors. The programme is expected to help reduce school dropout rates while providing opportunities for children to continue their education.

“President Prabowo’s Asta Cita programme must be truly on target. There should no longer be Indonesian children dropping out of school because of economic problems. With Sekolah Rakyat, we hope there will be no more reason for children not to attend school because they cannot afford it,” he stressed.

He assessed that a family’s economic condition should not determine a child’s educational future. Therefore, the government needs to present policies capable of reaching communities that have long faced limited access to education.

However, he reminded that the success of Sekolah Rakyat should not be measured solely by building construction or the number of students accommodated. According to him, learning quality, supporting facilities, student admission mechanisms and teacher availability are also important aspects that need attention.

“Learning quality, supporting facilities, student admission mechanisms and teacher availability must also receive attention,” he said.

Sekolah Rakyat Sigi Targeted to Accommodate 2,000 Students

Deputy Head of Sekolah Rakyat Sigi, Azizah Nur Isnaeni, explained that the permanent Sekolah Rakyat complex in Pombewe Village is targeted to accommodate up to 2,000 students.

The students will come from three education levels: primary school (SD), junior high school (SMP) and senior high school (SMA). Currently, the student recruitment process for the three levels is still ongoing.

“The target for Sekolah Rakyat in Sigi Regency, particularly in Pombewe Village, is 2,000 students for SD, SMP and SMA levels. We hope the permanent school construction can be completed soon. This programme is very helpful and we see that Sekolah Rakyat can reduce the number of school dropouts,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto for implementing the Sekolah Rakyat Programme. According to her, the programme opens broader opportunities for children from underprivileged families to obtain education.

The completion of the permanent complex in Pombewe Village is expected to strengthen the teaching and learning process with support from more adequate educational facilities and infrastructure.

Through monitoring and synergy between the central government, regional governments and various related parties, the Sekolah Rakyat Programme is expected to run optimally and provide benefits for children who need better access to education.
