Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Alimuddin Kolatlena, demonstrated his concern for regional infrastructure by personally helping residents repair a damaged bridge on Osi Island, West Seram Regency, Maluku.

The presence of the cadre from the party led by President Prabowo Subianto was greeted with enthusiasm by the local community. The bridge repair was carried out through gotong royong, as the access route is a vital pathway connecting residents’ daily activities, from population mobility to the distribution of fishermen’s catch.

In his statement, Alimuddin emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and the community in maintaining basic infrastructure, particularly in island regions that face their own geographical challenges.

“I visited together with the residents to repair the damaged bridge on Osi Island, West Seram Regency, Maluku,” said Alimuddin in a written statement on Thursday (23/4/2026).

The condition of the previously damaged bridge was deemed to hinder the economic and social activities of the community. Therefore, the direct involvement of the people’s representative in the field served as moral encouragement for residents to carry out self-funded repairs while awaiting further handling from the government.

“This gotong royong action also reflects the strong spirit of togetherness among Maluku’s coastal communities in facing limitations,” said Alimuddin.

Residents hope that this temporary repair will soon be followed by the construction of a more permanent and adequate bridge by the relevant government.

The step taken by Alimuddin is seen as a tangible form of the presence of the people’s representative among the community, not only in legislative functions but also in ensuring that the community’s basic needs are met.
