A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction, Himmatul Aliyah, has appreciated the Lampung Provincial Government’s policy of implementing free education while abolishing committee fee levies at public high school levels. This policy is considered a progressive step that favours the community and is capable of expanding access to education.

The appreciation was expressed by Himmatul, who is also the Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, during a specific working visit by Commission X to Bandar Lampung on Friday (17/4). She assessed that the Lampung Provincial Government’s commitment is important in improving access and quality of secondary education.

“We appreciate the Lampung Provincial Government for its commitment to improving access and quality of secondary education,” she stated in a written remark on Thursday (17/4/2026).

According to her, the abolition of committee fee levies in public high schools as well as the implementation of free schooling represents a strategic step to alleviate the burden of education costs on the community.

“The policy of abolishing committee fee levies in public high schools and the free education system demonstrates the local government’s support for students,” she added.

In addition, Himmatul also highlighted the academic achievements of students in Lampung, which show a positive trend, one of which is evident from the increasing number of students who pass to higher education through the merit pathway.

“Student academic achievements are beginning to show positive results, one of which is the increasing number of students who are accepted into higher education through the merit pathway,” she said.

Nevertheless, she reminded that there are still several challenges that need to be addressed, such as disparities in learning quality between schools, improvements in student literacy and numeracy, and strengthening the capacity of educators.

“In the future, improving teacher quality, facilities and infrastructure, and student learning motivation must be a collective concern so that the quality of education in Lampung continues to improve,” she concluded.

Himmatul also committed that Commission X of the House of Representatives supports various strategic policies to expand access to education while enhancing student competitiveness in Lampung Province.
