Gerindra Jakarta Promotes Environmental Awareness through Indonesia ASRI Movement
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta branch of the Gerindra Party is encouraging increased environmental awareness among its members through the implementation of the Indonesia ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) Movement on Sunday.
The Secretary of the Gerindra Party Jakarta branch and Deputy Chairperson of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Rany Mauliani, stated that the ASRI Movement must be realised through tangible activities that are closely connected to community life.
“Activities can take any form related to health, security, tidiness, and cleanliness. ‘Resik’ does not just mean tidy, but also organised, clean, and beautiful,” Rany said in Jakarta on Sunday.
One of the activities took place at Padepokan Ciliwung, Balekambang, Condet, East Jakarta.
In its implementation, the ASRI Movement in East Jakarta featured several environmental activities. Members participated in a clean-up of the Ciliwung River, tree planting, environmental forums (Rembuk Lingkungan), and activities related to the aquatic ecosystem.
The forum discussed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and the environment sustainably, while simultaneously encouraging members to apply environmental care within their respective regions.
Rany noted that reforestation is a vital component of the ASRI Movement. The tree planting serves as a form of care for the urban environment and the availability of green spaces in Jakarta.
“Because the more trees we plant in Jakarta, God willing, the air quality in Jakarta will improve every day,” Rany said.
In addition to reforestation and river cleaning, participants also engaged in removing invasive suckermouth catfish (ikan sapu-sapu) and releasing tilapia (ikan mujair) into the water.
These activities are part of a series of actions related to the condition of the aquatic ecosystem in the Ciliwung River area.
According to Rany, environmental activities can also serve to strengthen social bonds and the involvement of members at the regional level.
“This movement is certainly not only for the environment; we are also building unity, maintaining social ties, and empowering our members in the regions,” said Ali.
Ali also highlighted the issue of waste as one of the environmental challenges in Jakarta. He urged the public to begin building the habit of sorting waste at home and to stop littering.
“We must no longer think that waste is solely the government’s responsibility. This issue must be resolved collectively, starting from the household level by sorting waste,” Ali concluded.
He mentioned that waste management can also be carried out through waste banks. Waste that still has utility, such as plastic and cardboard, can be sorted and processed to hold economic value while simultaneously helping to reduce waste accumulation.
