Gerindra Issues Stern Warning to Jember DPRD Member Over Viral Smoking and Gaming Incident
The Honour Council of the Gerindra party’s Central Executive Board (DPP) has issued a stern and final warning to Ahmad Syahri As Sidiqi, a member of the Gerindra faction in the Jember DPRD, after a video of him smoking and playing games on his mobile phone during a meeting on stunting went viral and drew public attention.
The decision was read out during a session of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council, held at the DPP’s office in Jakarta, on Friday (15 May).
The chairman of the council, Fikrah Auliaurrahman, stated that Ahmad Syahri had been found to have violated the party’s constitution and internal regulations (AD/ART) based on the examination of reports, witnesses, and evidence presented during the trial.
“The Honour Council has examined all parties involved, including the complainant, the defendant, and witnesses, before deciding that there was a violation of the Gerindra Party’s AD/ART,” said Fikrah.
He emphasised that the sanction imposed was a final warning. If the individual commits similar violations in the future, the party will impose a more severe sanction, namely dismissal as a member of the Jember Regency DPRD.
Meanwhile, a member of the Honour Council, Yunico Syahrir, explained that Ahmad Syahri was found to have violated seven provisions in the Gerindra Party’s AD/ART.
Some of these violations relate to the obligation of party members to uphold the party’s good name and honour, to obey organisational discipline, and to demonstrate polite and ethical behaviour in daily life and political activities.
In addition, party members are also required to comply with all internal rules, implement organisational decisions, and protect the party’s interests from actions that could harm Gerindra’s image in the public eye.
This case had previously attracted widespread attention after a video recording of Ahmad Syahri smoking and playing games during a Jember DPRD meeting on handling stunting went viral on social media and drew criticism from the public. (Ant/P-3)
