Gerindra Issues Reprimand to DPRD Member Caught Playing Games
The ethics committee of the Gerindra party held a hearing on Friday, May 15, 2026, and found Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a member of the Jember Regency DPRD, guilty of violating party rules. The committee issued a reprimand to Syahri, who was caught smoking and playing games during a Commission D DPRD meeting in Jember, East Java, earlier this week.
The chairman of the hearing, Fikrah Auliyaurrahman, stated that Syahri had violated the Gerindra party’s constitution and bylaws. “We are issuing a final and severe reprimand to Achmad Syahri Assiddiqi, an economics graduate and member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Jember Regency DPRD,” Fikrah said while reading the verdict at the Gerindra Party’s central executive board office in South Jakarta on Friday.
Fikrah added that this reprimand is the final warning, and Syahri faces dismissal from the Jember DPRD if he commits further violations. The regulations violated by Syahri, according to the Gerindra Party’s ethics committee, include:
Article 16, paragraph 2 of the Gerindra Party’s constitution, which requires upholding the name and honor of the Gerindra Party.
Article 16, paragraph 3 of the Gerindra Party’s constitution.
Article 67, paragraph 5 of the Cadre Oath, which states that members will adhere to and obey the party’s ideology and discipline, and maintain the party’s honor, dignity, and solidarity.
Article 68 of the Cadre Identity, which states that in daily life and behavior, members will always act politely, disciplined, nationalistic, and cautiously.
Article 2, paragraph 1 of the party’s bylaws, regarding compliance with and implementation of all the Gerindra Party’s constitution and bylaws.
Article 2, paragraph 2 of the party’s bylaws, regarding compliance with and implementation of decisions from party congresses and all party regulations.
Article 2, paragraph 4 of the party’s bylaws, which requires defending the party’s interests in any actions that harm the party.
Achmad Syahri stated that he regrets his actions and claims he will comply with the sanctions from the Gerindra Party’s ethics committee. “I will abide by the decision of the Party’s ethics committee. I regret it; I apologize for my mistakes,” he said after the hearing.
A widely circulated video on social media shows Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a member of the Jember Regency DPRD for the 2024–2029 period from the Gerindra Party faction, playing games and smoking during a DPRD meeting discussing stunting.
The video, which shows Achmad Syahri Assidiqi playing games on his phone while smoking during the meeting, has gone viral on social media. The video was reportedly recorded during a hearing held by Commission D of the Jember DPRD with the Health Department, Population Control and Family Planning Department, Social Department, BPJS Kesehatan, and representatives from community health centers on Monday, May 11.
On May 13, 2026, the Gerindra Party’s ethics committee issued a summons with the number 05-012/A/MK-GERINDRA/2026, requesting Syahri to attend the ethics hearing today. He attended with the Chairman of the Jember DPRD and also the Chairman of the Jember Gerindra Party branch, Ahmad Halim.
