Gerindra Issues Final Warning to Jember DPRD Member for Smoking and Playing Games
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Gerindra party has issued a final warning to Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq, a member of the Gerindra faction in the Jember DPRD, after he was caught playing games and smoking during a working meeting.
The sanction was read out during a session of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council in Jakarta on Friday (15 May 2026), chaired by Fikrah Auliarrahman.
“We hereby issue a final and stern warning to Mr. Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq, a Bachelor of Economics and a member of the Gerindra Party faction in the Jember Regency DPRD,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Honour Council, Fikrah Auliarrahman, while reading out the verdict on Friday.
The Gerindra Party’s Honour Council stated that Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq had been found to have violated the party’s constitution and code of conduct (AD/ART).
In addition, Syahri was also deemed to have violated the oath of allegiance in Article 67, paragraph 5 of the Gerindra Party’s AD, which regulates the obligation of members to uphold the honour, dignity, and solidarity of the party.
The Council stated that Syahri’s actions were in violation of Article 68 of the AD, which concerns the identity of party members and requires members to act politely, disciplined, and humbly in their daily lives.
“If, in the future, Mr. Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq, a Bachelor of Economics, repeats the offence, he will be immediately subject to the sanction of dismissal as a member of the Jember Regency DPRD,” said Fikrah.
Ahmad Syahri As-Siddiq underwent an ethics hearing after a video of him playing games and smoking during a Jember DPRD meeting went viral on social media.
The Gerindra politician was seen wearing a white safari shirt and cream-coloured trousers, which are the hallmarks of the party’s uniform.
In the viral video, Syahri is seen playing a game, believed to be Clash of Clans, while holding a cigarette during the meeting.
The incident occurred when Commission D of the Jember DPRD held a hearing with the Health, Population Control and Family Planning Office, BPJS Kesehatan, the Social Service, and representatives from 15 community health centres on Monday (11 May 2026).
The Chairman of the Jember DPRD, Ahmad Halim, had previously conveyed an apology for the actions of the council member.
According to Halim, the case would be processed through the Jember DPRD’s Honour Council because it was deemed not to reflect the ethics and discipline of a legislative member.
He also said that the Gerindra Party would follow up on the case internally.
“We, as a party, will certainly take action against the member through reprimands or administrative sanctions or disciplinary sanctions regarding membership in the party,” said Halim.
