Gerindra Holds Ethics Hearing for Jember DPRD Member Caught Playing Games
Gerindra Party Honour Council Chairman Habiburokhman stated that his party will hold an ethics hearing against Jember Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) member Achmad Syahri Assidiqi for actions deemed unethical during a meeting. The hearing was held at the Gerindra Central Executive Board office in South Jakarta on Friday afternoon, 15 May 2026.
“The hearing will be held today at 14:00 in the Honour Council Meeting Room or Gerindra Party Court,” Habiburokhman said when contacted on Friday.
As Chairman of the Party Honour Council, the House of Representatives member will directly lead the proceedings. Today’s agenda is the examination of Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, who was caught smoking and playing games during a DPRD Jember meeting in East Java.
Achmad’s activities were recorded on camera, and the video went viral on social media. On 13 May 2026, the Gerindra Party Honour Council issued a summons letter numbered 05-012/A/MK-GERINDRA/2026, requesting Achmad to attend the ethics hearing today.
Achmad is required to bring witnesses and evidence for examination. He is also not permitted to be absent by sending a representative to fulfil the summons.
According to Habiburokhman, the Gerindra Party Honour Council’s decision will be announced after they complete the ethics hearing against Achmad. “The ruling will be issued today as well,” he said.
In the widely circulated video recording on social media, Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a Jember DPRD member for the 2024–2029 period from the Gerindra Party Faction, was captured on camera playing games and smoking during the Jember DPRD meeting discussing stunting.
The video recording showing Achmad Syahri Assidiqi playing games on his phone while smoking during the meeting spread widely on social media, including Instagram.
The video was recorded during a hearing or RDP held by Commission D of Jember DPRD with the Health Office for Population Control and Family Planning, Social Services Office, BPJS Health, and Puskesmas representatives, on Monday, 11 May.
Jember DPRD Chairman Ahmad Halim previously expressed an apology for Achmad Syahri’s actions that drew public attention. “We will process this because it concerns institutional ethics,” he said on Tuesday, 12 May 2025.
