Gerindra Faction Welcomes Jokowi's Proposal for Prabowo-Gibran to Serve Two Terms
Secretary of the Gerindra Party faction in the House of Representatives, Bambang Haryadi, has welcomed former President Joko Widodo’s support for President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to serve two terms. Bambang described the backing as a sign of Jokowi’s concern for the continuity of Prabowo’s administration. “We are supported. Whatever Pak Jokowi does, he is our former leader. We are grateful for this as a form of appreciation that he is very focused on the sustainability of Pak Prabowo’s government,” Bambang said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The directive for the Prabowo-Gibran government to continue into a second term (2029-2034) was revealed by Bestari Barus, Chair of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). Bestari stated that Jokowi had asked PSI and its sympathisers to guard the Prabowo-Gibran administration. He also dismissed the notion of a dual leadership situation arising from Jokowi’s planned regional tours starting in June. “To us, he conveyed that we are asked to safeguard Pak Prabowo-Gibran, even for two terms,” Bestari told reporters on Friday, 19 June 2026.
Bestari disclosed the message following a meeting with Jokowi in Solo the previous day. He said Jokowi reminded them to maintain harmony and support the ongoing Prabowo-Gibran government. Jokowi has repeatedly voiced support for the administration’s longevity, most recently when speaking to journalists at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, on 30 January 2026. Responding to a query about PSI’s daily chairman Ahmad Ali stating that Gibran could be a strong contender in the 2029 presidential race, Jokowi simply said, “I have already said, Prabowo-Gibran two terms. That’s it.”
Jokowi had also previously instructed the Barisan Relawan Jokowi Presiden (Bara JP) volunteer group to back the Prabowo-Gibran government for two terms. “From the beginning, I told all volunteers to support Prabowo-Gibran leading for two terms,” Jokowi stated on 19 September 2025.
