Gerindra Faction Denies Budisatrio Ordered Monitoring of VP Gibran
The Gerindra faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) has denied allegations that its chairman, Budisatrio Djiwandono, instructed members to monitor the movements of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The 21 June 2026 edition of Tempo magazine reported that Budisatrio had asked staff and expert advisors to scrutinise Gibran’s activities and those of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) in the regions.
Faction Secretary Bambang Haryadi refuted the claim on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at the Gerindra faction room in the parliament complex, Jakarta. “Regarding the issue that there was an instruction to monitor, I can confirm it is a hoax, it is not true. And Mas Budi has also denied it to the media,” Bambang said.
According to Bambang, the faction holds regular meetings at the beginning or near the end of DPR sitting periods. During these meetings, all members discuss issues in their electoral districts, report on the progress of government programmes in the regions, and monitor the availability of basic necessities. “Because we need to see whether the people’s purchasing power is being maintained or not. That is essentially it,” he explained.
As secretary, Bambang claimed he always accompanies Budisatrio when chairing meetings attended by all faction members. He therefore expressed confidence that Budisatrio never issued any order to monitor Gibran’s movements.
The Tempo report, titled “Gibran’s Manoeuvres as Prabowo-Jokowi Relations Strain”, suggested that the Gerindra faction was observing Gibran’s frequent regional visits. It alleged that ahead of the April 2026 recess, Budisatrio gathered legislators, expert staff, and advisors in the faction meeting room, where three participants separately recounted that the meeting discussed strategies for promoting government programmes such as free nutritious meals and food self-sufficiency. The report claimed Budi then asked staff and experts to monitor Gibran’s activities.
Budisatrio himself has denied the allegation. “The information is completely untrue,” he stated via WhatsApp message on Friday, 19 June 2026.
