The Gerindra Party faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has firmly denied rumours circulating on social media regarding a special meeting to monitor the movements of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The issue is considered a baseless attempt at provocation and sowing discord.

Secretary of the Gerindra Faction, Bambang Haryadi, stated that the news about a meeting led by the faction’s chairman, Budi Djiwandono, concerning the surveillance of the Vice President is a hoax. He stressed that such an agenda has never existed in any internal faction meeting.

“I always attend and co-lead the meetings in the Gerindra Faction, and there has never been an order or discussion regarding that matter,” Bambang said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday (24/6).

Bambang explained that the actual instruction given to all Gerindra faction members is to visit their respective electoral districts to directly monitor the community’s economic conditions. This is done to ensure that government programmes are running effectively at the grassroots level.

The faction’s current priority, he continued, is maintaining the stability of staple food prices and ensuring food availability for the public.

“The existing order is to monitor food availability and the prices of basic necessities in all DPR members’ electoral districts so we can ensure the people’s purchasing power is maintained,” he asserted.

Gerindra reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The relationship between the two leaders is confirmed to remain harmonious and solid.

In response to the spread of what it considers misleading information, the Gerindra Party plans to take legal action. Bambang stated that while the party respects press freedom, the presentation of information must be based on facts and accuracy.

“This is untrue gossip and tends to provoke and sow discord. For these false accusations, the Gerindra Party will file a lawsuit,” he concluded.

The Gerindra Faction urged the public to be more selective in absorbing information on social media and called on the mass media to present balanced reporting to maintain a conducive national political climate.
