Gerindra Denies Rift Between Prabowo and Jokowi

Gerindra Party spokesperson Bahtra Banong has denied that the relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jokowi, is strained. He stressed that communication between Prabowo and Jokowi faces no obstacles and is in good condition. “I think the communication between Mr Prabowo and Mr Jokowi is just fine,” Bahtra stated at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. “The last time we saw, Mas Didit, Mr Prabowo’s son, also visited Mr Jokowi’s residence. This means that communication has been fine all along,” he added. The Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives explained that Prabowo deeply respects previous leaders, including Jokowi. This is evidenced by Prabowo maintaining good communication with former presidents and vice presidents. “Communication with all former presidents is good, and Mr Prabowo’s communication with former vice presidents is also good. So I think there is nothing that is a problem or an issue,” Bahtra said. Prabowo and Jokowi were observed attending the 80th Anniversary ceremony of the Indonesian National Police at the Mobile Brigade Corps Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. At the event, Prabowo was seen greeting Jokowi with a salute. After saluting, Prabowo then shook hands with Jokowi.
