Gerindra Denies Rift Between Prabowo and Jokowi

Gerindra Party spokesperson Bahtra Banong has denied that the relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo, has become strained.

He asserted that communication between Prabowo and Jokowi is proceeding without any obstacles and remains in good standing.

“I believe Mr Prabowo’s communication with Mr Jokowi is perfectly fine,” Bahtra stated at the DPR Building, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.

“Most recently, we saw Mr Didit, Mr Prabowo’s son, visiting Mr Jokowi’s residence. This indicates that communication has been good all this time,” he added.

The Vice Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI noted that Prabowo holds great respect for previous leaders, including Jokowi. This is evidenced by the fact that Prabowo maintains good communication with both former presidents and vice presidents.

“Communication with all former presidents is good, as is communication with all former vice presidents. Therefore, I do not believe there is any issue or problem,” said Bahtra.

Both Prabowo and Jokowi were observed attending the 80th Anniversary ceremony of the Indonesian National Police at the Mobile Brigade Corps Training Unit in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. During the event, Prabowo was seen greeting Jokowi with a salute before shaking his hand.
