Gerindra Confident Alleged Rp20 Million Payment to UBK Students Did Not Involve Gibran
Jakarta – Secretary of the Gerindra Party faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Haryadi, is confident that the alleged payment of Rp20 million to a Bung Karno University (UBK) student did not involve Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. He explained that the circulating information was a unilateral claim from the university. “We do not know about that. This is just a unilateral statement from the students, the UBK Faculty of Law Student Executive Board chairman. So let the process run its course,” Bambang told reporters on Thursday, 25 June 2026. Bambang firmly believes there was no involvement by Gibran in the matter. He assessed that there might be other parties involved, but this still needs to be proven through the ongoing process. “However, I am sure there is no connection to Mas Gibran. I believe there may be other parties involved, we do not know,” he said. Responding to calls from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) for Gibran to provide clarification on the issue, Bambang considered it unnecessary. “I think not, it is not the Vice President’s duty to do that. I think this is an issue we do not need to respond to,” he explained. Previously, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka received student representatives who were staging demonstrations at several points in Jakarta and held a dialogue with them at the Vice Presidential Palace on Monday, 22 June 2026. The action coordinator and UBK Faculty of Law Student Executive Board chairman, M. Abdi Maludin, later admitted to receiving Rp20 million after the meeting and issued a public apology.
