Gerindra Clarifies Status of Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu, Caught in KPK Sting Operation
Jakarta - The Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Central Executive Board, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has provided clarification on the status of Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo, who was caught in a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operation (OTT).
Dasco explained that Gatut Sunu was endorsed by multiple parties during the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), and at that time, he was not yet a Gerindra cadre.
Gatut only registered to join Gerindra after he was elected as Regent of Tulungagung.
“Only after becoming regent, not long ago, did he register to become a Gerindra cadre,” Dasco said when contacted by Kompas.com on Saturday (11/4/2026).
“The actual Gerindra cadre is his deputy regent,” Dasco added.
Although he has registered as a Gerindra cadre, Gatut Sunu is not yet officially a member of the party with the head of garuda emblem.
This was affirmed by the Gerindra Party’s East Java Regional Leadership Council (DPD), which stated that Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo is not yet officially a party cadre.
Head of OKK (Organisation, Cadreisation, and Membership) of Gerindra’s East Java DPD, Hidayat, said that Gatut Sunu is not yet officially affiliated as a cadre.
However, Hidayat did not deny that Gatut was previously expected to join Gerindra soon, but he has not yet received approval from the Gerindra Central Leadership Council (DPP).
It was reported that Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo was caught in the KPK OTT on Friday (10/4/2026).
Gatut was brought to Jakarta on Saturday morning for intensive examination at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building.
Meanwhile, 15 other individuals caught in the KPK OTT are still being examined at the Tulungagung Police Resort Police Headquarters.
To date, the KPK has not disclosed the identities of the 15 people arrested along with Gatut.
