Geotab Uses Data and AI to Detect Fleet Risks
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Geotab is using data and artificial intelligence (AI) to help fleet operators identify potential risks earlier and support decision-making on vehicle safety and operations.
Geotab Indonesia Business Development Manager Alvin Santoso said the approach uses connected fleet intelligence, integrating vehicle, location, driver behaviour, diagnostics and video-context data within a single ecosystem.
“GPS enables fleet operators to know where their vehicles are. The next step is to understand what is happening around the vehicle, how it is being driven and what action needs to be taken,” Alvin said at a media discussion entitled “Smarter Fleets, Safer Roads: The Connected Intelligence Dialogue” in Jakarta on Thursday.
“In Indonesia, where road conditions, fleet operating characteristics and mobility needs vary greatly, the value of connected intelligence lies in its ability to turn huge volumes of data into information that operators and drivers can actually act on,” he said.
The Canadian multinational technology company’s connected ecosystem includes MyGeotab, a fleet management platform that integrates vehicle and driver information in one system.
GO Focus Plus adds AI-based video context and in-cabin alerts for certain risks, including fatigue, distraction and tailgating.
Globally, Geotab processes more than 100 billion data points each day from around six million connected vehicles and assets. The data is not merely collected but linked to help operators determine what action to take next.
In Indonesia, Geotab technology is used by several companies, including Aerotrans, a ground transport provider for Garuda Indonesia Group. More than 250 Aerotrans vehicles have been connected through Geotab since 2024.
“Since using Geotab, we have recorded a fleet safety rating of 89 per cent, a 61 per cent improvement in predicting accident rates per kilometre, reductions of 57 per cent in harsh-braking incidents and 66 per cent in aggressive acceleration, as well as a 22 per cent reduction in idling time,” said Kadek Bayu Temaja, director of PT Aerotrans Services Indonesia.
