JAKARTA - Escalating global geopolitical tensions are beginning to exert pressure on the automotive industry’s supply chain. Disruptions in distribution and the availability of raw materials have become challenges that industry players must face, including PT Astra International Tbk. Astra’s President Director, Rudy, stated that the impact of geopolitical conflicts is not only felt directly but also extends to various operational aspects, from logistics to material supplies. This situation has made distribution flows less efficient than before. According to him, the uncertain global situation is also driving up costs, both in terms of transportation and raw materials. This poses a particular challenge for the automotive industry, which still relies on cross-border supply chains. In response to these conditions, Astra is preparing several mitigation measures. One of them is seeking alternative supply sources to ensure production continuity amid global uncertainty. “If raw materials are limited, one initiative is to find alternative sources. The same applies to distribution routes; we are looking at safer pathways,” Rudy said. In addition, the company is also striving to improve operational efficiency as a step to keep performance stable. Evaluation of distribution routes to logistics management is part of the strategy being implemented.
