Geopolitical Situation: Police Chief Asks Brimob to Prepare for Security and Public Order
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed personnel of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) of the Indonesian National Police to prepare for guarding security and public order in light of the increasingly tense global geopolitical situation.
In his address at the Technical Work Meeting Roll Call (Rakernis) of the Korbrimob Polri in Depok on Tuesday, the Police Chief explained that the current global geopolitical situation is escalating with conflicts between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
These conflicts could pose a threat if not quickly resolved.
He cited attacks on oil refineries in Saudi Arabia and strikes in the Strait of Hormuz as having an impact on the global energy situation.
“It is estimated that if the Strait of Hormuz continues to experience disruptions, oil prices could keep rising. A few times ago, we already exceeded one US dollar per barrel, and if this continues, it could reach 200 US dollars per barrel,” he said.
Disruptions to these energy sources, according to the Police Chief, could disrupt the foundations and economic stability in all countries, including Indonesia.
In Indonesia, he mentioned that there is currently an increase in the prices of non-subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG. This increase will impact rising prices of necessities, which could potentially cause domestic security issues.
Therefore, the leader of the Bhayangkara Corps asked Korbrimob Polri personnel to remain alert and prepare to face various potential disruptions to public order.
“Of course, evaluation, simulation, training, and cohesion among all members in the field will be the key to our success in carrying out missions or tasks,” he said.
The Police Chief is confident that Korbrimob, as a special force within the Polri, will be one of the reliable teams when public order disruptions increase. He also advised personnel to thoroughly study the situation and escalation occurring.
“Study the conditions and terrain in the field. Prepare the equipment you have so that when you deploy, the equipment available, attached to you, is ready to be used,” he said.
He also advised personnel to carry out duties with a sense of humanity so that the public can feel the presence of Brimob in their operations.
The Rakernis Roll Call of Korbrimob Polri was attended by approximately 7,000 Brimob personnel.
The roll call is part of the rakernis activities themed “Korps Brimob Polri Precision Ready to Secure and Support Polri Programmes in Order to Successfully Implement the Government’s 2026 Work Plan.”
