Geology Agency says Mount Marapi seismic activity relatively stable
Padang City (ANTARA) — The Geology Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said that the seismic activity of Mount Marapi, located in the Agam and Tanah Datar regencies of West Sumatra, for the period 16–28 February 2026, was relatively stable.
“The seismic activity of Mount Marapi is relatively stable, with no visible increase in earthquakes indicating an additional magma supply from depth,” said Acting Head of the Geology Agency of the ESDM Lana Saria through a written statement received in Padang on Thursday.
Lana explained that earthquakes related to shallow fluid pressure were observed in limited numbers, without a significant tremor increase. Overall, this condition indicates there are no signs of a rise in activity that would lead to a higher level of volcanic activity.
Additionally, Real Time Seismic Amplitude Measurement (RSAM) values fluctuated around baseline, therefore not showing a significant energy accumulation inside the volcanic body.
However, it should be noted that these negative values do not indicate a continuous and sustained decline pattern; instead they fluctuate around a relatively similar range without deepening anomalies.
Meanwhile, coherence values remained at medium to high levels and were relatively stable, although occasionally experiencing small temporary declines.
In the report, the Geology Agency stated that there was no visible trend of a significant decrease in dv/v, nor any meaningful disruption to coherence. This indicates there is no increase in new pressure in the shallow part of the volcanic body.
“This condition reflects ongoing post-eruption activity, without escalation toward a larger eruption,” she explained.
