Geological Agency: Mount Slamet's Crater Temperature Stable, No Escalation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that the results of measurements using thermal drone technology show that the temperature conditions of the solfatara in Mount Slamet’s crater are currently relatively stable.
The Acting Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, in Jakarta on Thursday, revealed that based on the results of several temperature measurements using thermal drones, the temperature of the crater solfatara fluctuated between 407.2 degrees Celsius and 478.7 degrees Celsius, without showing a significant upward trend.
The stability of these thermal indicators is one of the main reasons for the geological authorities to evaluate and reduce the recommended danger radius.
Lana explained that the data collected from thermal drones during the period of April 4 - June 3, 2026, proves that there is no ongoing escalation of volcanic activity in the crater system of the 3,432-meter-high volcano above sea level.
Although the current solfatara temperature exposure is still quite high, the constant fluctuation trend has led the Geological Agency to officially restore the safe radius from three kilometers to two kilometers from the center of the crater.
However, the volcanic activity level of the volcano, which is located in five regencies of Central Java Province, remains at Level II (Alert) because its volcanic parameters have not fully returned to baseline conditions.
According to Lana, the government, through the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), is expected to continue to coordinate with the Mount Slamet Observation Post in Gambuhan Village, Pemalang Regency, which monitors the movement of crater air temperature and the supply of energy from within the earth to anticipate potential hazards.
