'Genius search' delays class

JAKARTA: A "super class" course for science geniuses will not be able to start in late August as scheduled due to the fact that geniuses have turned out to be more difficult to find than anticipated.

The founder of the Jakarta Super Class program, Yohanes Surya, said on Tuesday that the selection process, which was initially slated for the second week of August, will have to be put back.

"We have come up against several administrative problems ... However, I've given an ultimatum to all involved that come what may, the selections must be made on Sept. 5 at State High School No. 3 in Setiabudi, South Jakarta," said the trainer of science Olympiad candidates.

The free classes are aimed at giving a headstart to 30 talented high school students in the capital with a view to their competing in international science Olympiads.

It is expected that up to 5,000 high school students from Greater Jakarta will take part in the selection tests. -- JP
